Entry: I love teaching! Saturday, November 20, 2004

Apologies for a totally OT moment here, but I have had such a fun time over the last month with my teaching practice I'm coming over all motivated!  It isn't the best school in the area by any means and some of the kids are definitely not to be recommended for those of a nervous disposition, but to really be part of a team was something I just didnt feel in the previous placement.  Plus a month really gave me chance to make a connection with some of the more reasonable kids and I feel I made a eral difference to some of them.  The memory  of leaving on the last day with a load of year 7s (11-12) leaning over the bannister singing the tune from the Great Escape is something that will stay with me for a long while!  I've also got some pretty interesting lessons to teach when I return in the summer term, so for now, dear reader, motivation is high.  (And when it dips I can return to this post and remember the good old days!)

Of course in the recent weeks knitting time has  been somewhat curtailed, but there was no way I was going to stop.  Being right now an impoverished student I am going to try and make a lot of scarves and stuff for CHristmas presents and I posted some last time.  Since then I've added a scarf in  yellow/orange Bernat boa which may well go to my SKP in her last parcel and I have made a bag from some Lion Brand Chenille.  That takes some getting used to working with , though it did help when I followed advice to knot each end of the skein to try and stop shedding.  It's a change not to be felting a bag!  Somehow I have a feeling that there will have to be a poncho for C in the to do list fairly soon - she has tried all the standard nagging and is now trying a new approach by looking at the ultra cheap tacky ones in the shop and saying "I wish you could buy me one Mum, rather than having to wait for you to make me one!"  Boy does she know  how to work a guilt trip!
