The holiday season is been and gone - and once again it's that awkward period between the end of the festivities and the return of the kids to school to get Mum some free time AT LAST!!! The gifts are all handed out with mainly good reports - though the BIL who got the DNA scarf didnt seem as over excited as I'd have hoped, particuarly as he works with DNA. >:(. What is even more irritating is that I had also included a voucher for a hat in the same wool that C made - I ran out of motivation in the last days before CHristmas and couldn't face starting a hat for him. Still - once that is done I can relax and do some more fun knitting. On a more positive note C loved her poncho and we have struggled to get her out of it. It has been a dressing gown, a jumper and a coat, not to mention a blanket at bedtime! I made a couple of single skein scarves using Patons Whisper and gave one to Cs teacher and one to the next door neighbour. Both of those got rave reviews - the neighbour was given a jumper in a matching colour and the teacher apparently spontaneously wore the scarf all through the last day of term. All in all - successful! Christmas Day did bring a lovely moment from C - we knew full well that we would never get her off to sleep once she had woken, but made a deal with her that she could open her Santa pressies as long as she stayed out of our room until t he alarm had gone off. 7.30am on the big day C got up and went to the toilet, then turned her light on. We lay there expecting to hear the sound of the opening of presents - but nothing. Eventually I gave up and went in to find her sat on the floor surrounded by unopened presents, sha king her head. I asked her what was wrong and she said "I can't believe how lucky I am". Made it all worthwhile! So - now all the festivities are over, what is next on the needles? I keep eyeing up the2005 knit along page looking for inspiration - I'm tempted by Kiri, and by many of the scarvves in the Scarf Style book (though I think I had enough scarves in the run up to CHristmas) but one thought keeps coming back to me no matter how hard I push it away. Perhaps as a trainee science teacher I should be thinking about this. Daft idea, but it would make the kids sit up and take notice!
