I can't believe how long it has been since I posted - but it has been a real hard slog with the knitting this year and I haven't really had that much to say. I finished the BIL's hat and got that sent off to him, although the first one that I did I made the mistake of sizing to fit me - and I have a Big Head. Fortunately, so does the next door neighbour! S was rather surprised when he said jokingly that I'd have to knit him a hat only to be given one 5 min later! Since then I have struggled with a poncho for my niece - lots of ripping time! - the yarn is ack-rylic and I have to say I'm not... (more)

Wow - is it January already? Before I start, on a serious note no sane person can feel anything other than profound shock about the disaster in Asia. I had a friend in the region - fortunately totally safe and unaffected as she was in a seperate part of the country, but the truth still stands that an inconceivable number of people lost their lives. Kinda puts life in perspective - inter board and blog flame wars and politics seem so irrelevant compared with what millions of people are now facing over in that part of the world.

The holiday season is been and gone - and once again... (more)

By the time I get this posted it will be the big day, so Happy Christmas to you all! The cake is iced, the pressys wrapped, the cards delivered - we made it!

Talking of pressies - here's a pic of C's poncho that I made her. At last - no more nagging! The pattern is here. Noone tell her I have another skein of the purple and pink left. Please! I even finished the last king on the Jean Greenhowe nativity I have bneen knitting for the last three years. So here, in all its splendour (though lacking the baby Jesus as it wasn't Xmas day when I took the pic) it is.

Christmas Questions

Well - I'm emerging from the round of Nativities and gift knitting to show I'm still around. Stealing this list from Lisa who stole it from Hello Lovely, who stole it from .....- well you know how it goes.

When is the best time to open presents?

After breakfast Christmas morning. Though I'm in a gift exchange at the moment that gives gifts for the 12 days before Christmas which is pretty cool.

Have you been naughty or nice this year?

Nice, of course ;) (Hides cracks in halo)

Real tree or imitation tree?

I know I haven't been around much, but I have been writing up from the teaching practice I did last month, and trying to come up with a few present ideas.

Jean Greenhowe has always been a favourite of mine - indeed it was her that got me back into knitting. I had a go at a couple of her tree ornaments for a pressy for a friend who is also a knitter - and they were up to Jean's normal standards. I haven't done one of her bigger projects for some time now - perhaps in the New Year?

The latest of the scarves is already winging its way over the ocean for my secret pal, and I even designed... (more)

I love teaching!

Apologies for a totally OT moment here, but I have had such a fun time over the last month with my teaching practice I'm coming over all motivated! It isn't the best school in the area by any means and some of the kids are definitely not to be recommended for those of a nervous disposition, but to really be part of a team was something I just didnt feel in the previous placement. Plus a month really gave me chance to make a connection with some of the more reasonable kids and I feel I made a eral difference to some of them. The memory of leaving on the last day with a load of year 7s... (more)

OK, OK, OK! You want pics?

LOL - I finally got a couple of hours off from school - they are having a parents afternoon/evening so the school is shut this am so I got time to download some pics. Sorry it has taken so long - there just arent enough hours in the day to do all I want to do, so here we go.

The longest outstanding pic HAS to be the DNA scarf - not the best of pics for showing the pattern which really does show up a whole lot better. I 'll try and improve on this later in the week. Frida doesnt seem to have been too badly affected by the problems I had with the pattern - here she is. I really dont... (more)

I think that this might be familiar to one or two people who pop in here - I'm certainly not showing DH! Dont want to give him ideas..... I know that I have been promising photos for the last few weeks, but I just dont seem to have time to a) download and b) resize. The placement that I am doing right now is taking all my time and energy, and as we are off on hols for the kids school hols tomorrow I thought I'd better pop in and make a quick post or two. Holiday knitting - I'm not sure. I see a lot of scarves in my future, particularly as I have just bought Scarf Style - whether that's... (more)

Another FO! Yes - I have finished Frida - but the pics are still on the camera and the means to down load it is not around right now. It's interesting looking at the comment that Vaxgirl left in the last message. From what she has from the designer on her blog, it seems as though there might be a misprint in the instructions as Christina talks about the side panels being in reverse stocking stitch rather than garter stitch, though the instructions clearly talk about garterstitch on magknits as it is now. Think I'll have to pass this to Kerrie, but if anyone is considering knitting Frida... (more)

Stash enhancement

After meeting Kerrie earlier in the week, I was lucky enough to help relieve her of some of her stash today - and it was very hard not to just take the whole box! There was some really yummy yarn there - but I restrained myself and settled for some Rowan Kid soft and kid classic, some Berrocco Furz and some hand painted Schaeffer yarn. C sat and stroked it all the way home while working her through the 2001 Kids Special Vogue saying - will you knit that for me? I am going to have to quit the course just to be able to keep up with her to do list! Thanks Kerrie - it's great to have another... (more)
